Lewes woman faces DUI, weapon, drug charges after crashing truck

A Lewes woman faces DUI, weapon and drug charges after crashing her truck in Milton.

About 7:18 a.m., Dec. 26, Delaware State Police responded to a vehicle collision on Cool Spring Road south of Milton. Responding officers say a black Ford F-250 pickup truck hit a utility pole, causing wires to come down across the road. The driver and sole occupant of the truck was identified as Tori L. Luff, 25, of Lewes.

Police say Luff was sitting down outside the vehicle and stated she was not injured. However, EMS and paramedics were already on scene and had evaluated her, although she had refused treatment, police say.

Police say they detected a marijuana smell during the investigation. Once power lines were rendered safe, police conducted a probable cause search of the truck. When they opened the driver’s side door, police say they located multiple rounds of .40 caliber S&W pistol cartridges, 47 Clonazepam pills, Vyvanse capsule and a small scale commonly used to weigh drugs. A loaded Glock .45 caliber handgun, a glass vial with crack cocaine weighing .5 grams, 3.8 grams of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia were also found in the truck.

Police say Luff appeared to be intoxicated with multiple signs of impairment, so a DUI investigation was initiated. At this point, officers say, Luff requested to go to the hospital. After she was released from the hospital, she was taken to Troop 7 and charged with felony possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, felony possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, two counts of possession of cocaine, and one count each of possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, marijuana and DUI drugs.

Luff was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of a $13,701 cash bond.
