Attempted Bank Robber Arrested By Alpharetta Police

ALPHARETTA, GA — A man from Dunwoody who attempted to rob an Alpharetta bank spent New Year’s Eve in the Fulton County Jail, police said.

Manbir Minhas, 39, of Dunwoody, was taken into custody without incident a short distance from his home following a stakeout that led to a traffic stop.

On Dec. 27, police released information about an attempted bank robbery at Bank of America, 6225 Windward Parkway.

Shortly before 12:30 p.m., Minhas entered the bank and asked to speak to a customer service associate. At about 1 p.m., he was talking with an associate when he indicated that he was in possession of an explosive device, demanded a specific amount of money, and indicated he would kill everyone inside the bank, police said.

During the conversation with the bank associate, Minhas became frustrated and left the bank on foot in a westbound direction. He was not successful in obtaining any money and no one was injured during the incident, police said.

Once dispatched, Alpharetta officers immediately responded to the bank, and conducted an extensive search of the area for the suspect. However, they were not able to locate him.

With the assistance of the FBI and Dunwoody Police Department, Minhas was arrested Dec. 31.

Minhas was charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault. This case remains under an ongoing investigation and, at this time, no federal charges have been filed.

While this case is pending prosecution, no further details can be released, police said.
